who we are

Creating A Christian Community- The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is first and foremost a church. A denomination that is accepting of all people, in any form, with a strong message of sin and salvation . Its leaders, “officers”, are ordained ministers, its members, “soldiers”, are committed to the fight. The Salvation Army has a strong heritage of following the command of the founder, “Go for souls, and go for the worst of them.” There are both formal and informal meetings with an abundance of fellowship. The congregation is a combination of the served and the serving.

The Salvation Army has been focused on saving souls, growing saints, and serving suffering humanity since 1865. Join us this Sunday.

Saving and Serving- Mission and Purpose

Christianity is more than mere religion. Moved by the social degradation he witnessed in London’s East End, Booth asserted that sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, The Light of the World, would heal this darkest part of England. Realistically, though, he understood that a man wouldn’t listen to the salvation story if it was drowned out by the growling of an empty stomach. So Booth championed the cause of soup, soap, and salvation, surmising that if you could fill a man’s stomach and clean him up a bit, he may be eager to hear your message.

What does this have to do with Cumberland, Robeson, Hoke, Scotland, and Moore counties today? Well, the compassion that drove the founder of The Salvation Army still drives us today.

In John 13:35 Jesus says, “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

That love sometimes takes the form of giving food to a hungry family; sometimes it means visiting a resident in a nursing home; other times it means sharing the hope which is only found in Jesus Christ.

Local donations, contributions, and our Community Partners allow us to offer effective programs like the Bed & Bread Club, Kids 2 Kamp and the Kettle Club.

Become a part of The Salvation Army. Together, we can make a difference.
